Sometimes, after a toasted veggie burger and a nice glass of ice water, we like to cruise the web. Here’s a few articles we found about us online.

VegWebby Award Winner for Best Corporate Site
VegNews named Gardenburger.com a winner of the 2006 VegWebby Awards! Here's what they had to say about our site, "Between Kraft-owned Boca Burger and Kellogg's-owned Morningstar Farms, the quintessential vegetarian meal-the veggie burger-has been sucked into the corporate machine. Yet the original VB, Gardenburger, has remained independent and seeks to reconnect with its core consumers. The website incorporates heartland kitsch and a '60s throwback feel that appeals to all age groups."
Campus Kudos
For vegetarian students at Grady High School in Atlanta, Ga., life just got a little bit better. Lucky herbivores on this progressive campus get their own "vegetarian only" lunch line boasting tasty meat-free menu items like tofu sloppy joes, veggie burgers, pasta salads and egg rolls. Initially, the concept was designed to nourish members of the school’s 30-member strong vegetarian club, but some days, the cafeteria dishes up as many as 400 plant-based meals. Tom Callahan of Sodexho Inc., Grady's food service provider, says other schools around the country are adopting this progressive model. "We’re starting to see momentum building," he says.

Beastless Burgers
"Yearning for barbecue season?" – Natural Health magazine recently asked in their April 2006 edition. "To get an early (and healthy start, toss a faux-meat burger onto your skillet or indoor grill. Low in fat and high in fiber, these veggie patties pair perfectly with soy chips and vegan-mayo potato salad."
The magazine continued, pointing toward the Gardenburger Veggie Medley as a great option.
"This soy-rich blend of mushrooms, peppers, and carrots packs a garlicky punch and water-chestnut crunch."
We couldn't have said it any better ourselves. Thanks, Natural Health magazine.
Flame Grilled burger chosen "Best Vegetarian Burger"
Men's Health magazine has declared Gardenburger's Flame Grilled burger as "Best Vegetarian Burger." The ranking was announced in the magazine's June 2006 edition listing "The 125 Best Foods For Men."
The magazine's staff and nutrition advisers worked together to determine the healthiest food products on the market. They eliminated products packed with unhealthy trans fats or high-fructose corn syrup, and have an approving nod to those with the most fiber and high-quality protein. Then they let their taste buds do the rest of the work.
Considering the rules of the competitions, it's no surprise Gardenburger won. But we'd would like to take exception to one thing this fine magazine said of the Flame Grilled.
"This meatless burger almost as good as the real thing," the magazine reported.
C'mon Men’s Health, veggie burgers ARE the real thing.
No caged chickens here, thank you
Gardenburger has always tried to take a leadership role in the food industry. Most recently, we eliminated the use of eggs in all of our products except for one of our veggie patties. And those eggs come from a cage-free, organic egg provider.
In May, the Humane Society of the United States said some really nice stuff about our efforts.
"Gardenburger has already done much to reduce the suffering of farm animals in our country, and this latest move further demonstrates its commitment to animal welfare," said Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The HSUS. "The HSUS encourages Gardenburger's competitors in the meatless foods market, … to do the same."
In the United States, approximately 95 percent of eggs sold come from hens confined in barren "battery cages," wire enclosures so small the birds can't nest, forage, perch, walk, or even spread their wings. The cages are stacked one on top of another inside huge warehouses on factory farms. Each bird is afforded less space than a single sheet of paper on which to live, leading to extremely high levels of stress and frustration.
The Great 8
Gardenburger's Portabello Mushroom burger was named among Vegetarian Times magazine's top 8 veggie burgers in their May/June 2006 edition. The magazine trumpeted the veggie burgers' "Great mushroom flavor with a hint of nuttiness."
